Companies are mass producing skin care products with OTC ingredients, just as they have been for the last 30 years. What they include in these formulas are ingredients like mineral oils, lanolin, petroleum, alcohol, sodium lauryl sulphate, to just mention a few. What is the use of adding an anti-acne ingredient to a base formula that is proven to block pores? What is the use of creating a anti-dandruff shampoo for sensitive scalp with ingredients commonly used in dish soap? The easy answer is COST. These synthetic ingredients offer considerable monetary benefits to the producer, and when they package it as nicely as they do (check any department store counter!) you would never be able to tell the difference. Except the fact that the formula does not work or makes your condition worse.
